Going Home

Ok, in Honh Kong airport, it's massive. You need to catch a train from the terminal to the gate.

It's 1 hour now until we board the plane & we are really looking forward to getting home now. You don't realise how much things mean to you until you go away. We'll never be bored in quite, calm Perth again.

When we left we had 2 cases, a big one & a small one. Now we have 4 cases & they're all full. We've had to squish them down to close them & also put some stuff in our carry-on bags. We've bought too much stuff. Looks like there'll be no christmas resents this year.

Our only regret on the trip hasd been that we didn't get up to Victoria Peak to view the whole of Hong Kong. But Mel doesn't like the idea of cable cars & my feet were too sore for any climbing at all.

Anyway, love you all, see you soon. Ca't wait.

Back in Honkers

Just a quick entry today. We got back into Hong Kong last night after a very very long flight from LA. Air travel in the US is horrendous. It basically took us 4 1/2 hours just to get a 45 minute flight from vegas to LA.

We can't get internet access in our hotel room here this time for some reason so the only access is in the lobby in the "Business Centre" (an old computer in the corner) which we can access for 20 minutes. So I won't be able to upload any photos. We are on the 31st floor too so won't be coming down too often.

We are hoping to hit the markets big time this afternoon & tonight for our last spending and then tomorrow head to the airport around lunch time.

We are both really tired now, our feet have given out & we're looking forward to getting home to the kids (& Ricky says Mel).

We'll try and check the email & post here before we leave the hotel tomorrow lunch time.
Until then see you all soon.

Hanging with a Duke, a King & a Princess

Well another busy day. After a full breakfast at the hotel buffet we decided to head back to the Strip.

As today is our last day we were determined to make the most of it and wear ourselves out for the horrendous trip tomorrow.

Our first stop was Madam Toussaud's at the Venice hotel. Very nice. Expensive but well worth the trip.

venice3.jpg
This is inside the hotel at the canals. Taking a ride was on our list but we didn't get time & it was pretty expensive.

You'll know which videos Mel took as it will zoom in on a shoe, hand bag or jewelry store. I think we now have a video of every expensive shop in Vegas, she's a dreamer that girl.

We are fast running out of money. We've spent way too much on presents & stuff. Yes kids we bought you lots of stuff. We're trying to save money for shopping in Hong Kong too. Money slips through your fingers so quickly here. We sat down at a 1c machine tonight & even at that price a dollar can be gone in about 2 minutes. Some of the machines only bet $100 at a time.

Anyway, the next stop was Madam Toussaud's. Was really great and the people look very very real & you can touch them & take your photo with them.

Here's one for Thomas & Lewis.

We got a portrait done with the King. This is a picture of it. This is as close as we got to a wedding with elvis. They were way too expensive. We decided to go to a show instead, but more on that later.

capper.jpg
Me going the Capper over Shaq. Chronic chafing & all, I got the job done. You beauty. Straughine would be proud. I'm a genuine superstar of Aussie sports.

There was lots more we got photos of. Was good fun.

Next stop was the Eiffel tower which is about half the size of the original. Mel got the willies going up there & was hanging on to me the whole time. Mel doesn't do heights well. It was a pretty hairy ride though. You can get some nice pictures from up there though.

tower1.jpg
The hotel being built here is called the Cosmo & it's gonna be huge.

tower2.jpg
Thats the Bellagio fountains down there.

tower3.jpg
Down the strip looking south.

tower4.jpg
Looking west. You can see our hotel in the distance.

View of the Bellagio fountains (would've been nice if they were on at the time). Behind that is Caesar's Palace with the Mirage after that.

The tower in the background is the Stratosphere. It's gotta be 50 or 60 stories high, easily the highest building in Vegas. Sorry for the shaky video but I had to zoom right in. If you look carefully you'll see what looks like a little black crane sticking out from the top at the left. Well it's not a crane it's a RIDE. It's a small roller coaster that goes up the spike & then out the side of the tower 50 or 60 stories up. No thank you I'm keeping my feet on the ground. Even worse, around the other side of the tower is a ride that looks like the hurricane that goes up & down & spins around in a little seat & the whole thing hangs out over the side. You'd have to be nuts.

Of course after going up that shaky tower Mel needed a drink & went back to the same place as yesterday, Le Petit Bar in the Paris Hotel.

After all that excitement we waited at the Bellagio Fountains for a bit of relaxation. I managed to get the whole 4 1/2 minutes of the show which is too long to post here but here is the finale. It's pretty spectacular.

Our last stop was a show, you gotta see a show in Vegas. We decided on the Fab Four, a Beatles tribute band.
fabfour.jpg

They were unbelievable. The show started with an Ed Sullivan impersonator who introduced them exactly as was done back in 1964 on American tv. When they came out & started playing I got chills, they were so close to the Beatles, even down to the same moves & style & even facial expressions. I tell ya, the oldies in that show went off. It was a small theatre of about 200 & we were about 10 feet from the front & no one was in front of us, it was a great view. They did 3 costume & hair changes to show the start to end of the Beatles career. But the best was near the end they gave out a T shirt to the person who screamed the loudest & Mel won it. Actually I think they were throwing it to the woman in front of Mel but Mel went up like Jezza & brought down the shirt. She had the eye of the tiger & the fire in her belly & came away with the goods. She got the job done. All those hours watching the footy paid off. Dave & Steve will be doing a Toyota Legends Moment on Mel next season. "We relive the night Mel Fraser soared over the pack at the Fab Four concert to win a T shirt'. So she's now the proud owner of a Fab Four T shirt.

So now all the fun is over, it's now 11.15 & we're gonna try & stay up all night (hopefully) as we have to leave here around 4.30am to catch our plane at 6.30. We then have 4 hours of waiting at LA airport before we spend the next 15 hours on the plane back to Hong Kong & arrive at 6.30 the next night. What a horrible day. Not looking forward to it at all. So we may not be able to post at all tomorrow so our next post won't be until saturday night Hong Kong time.

Miss you all, not long to go now.

The Experience

Today has been a little less hectic.

It's now 5pm & we've been relaxing in the hotel room for a few hours.

Last night spent a bit of time in the casino trying to lose our money. Had some fried 'something' for dinner. I asked for onion rings I guess thats what they were. If you are ever offered a Chili Dog, don't eat it. A really bad hot dog made with sausage that tastes like cardboard & then topped with chili & beans that make it go soggy. Giving me heartburn just thinking about it.

Went to the buffet for lunch, wasn't too bad but we've found that the food here is much saltier, richer & greasier than we are used to. Just asking for a drink gets you a drink that I'm sure is close to 2 litres, and that's not the large one. Even the coffees come in cups that must be 1/2 a litre at least.

Took a taxi down to downtown after lunch to visit the Fremont st Experience. The downtown area is pretty seedy & needing a facelift urgently. Fremont st I think was the original area of the casinos like the Golden Nugget. It is covered & at night they have a light show & videos on the roof so it would be pretty spectacular. Fremont st itself is pretty good though, lots to see & buy.

The shopping there was really good for things like clothes & souvenirs. Really cheap.

Earlier this morning we went for a walk around the hotel as there is so much we still haven't seen at the hotel.

The pool area, was a bit cool to get the thong out.

roomview.jpg
The view from the room this morning lloking out towards the mountains. Vegas sits in a valley with mountains on the west & east. We are facing west.

tikki.jpg
Might have to put some money into this machine just for Jewel.

After Fremont st we caught a taxi back to the strip. Mel wanted to go back to the Paris Hotel to get a drink that comes in a really fancy (or gaudy) dunno what you'd call it, Check the video. It's a copy of the version of the big balloon out the front which I assume is in the real Paris somewhere.

By the way, street drinking (even bus drinking) is fine in Vegas. As long as you are enjoying yourself, spending money and not interfering with anyone else you can pretty much do anything you want.

Mel took this video inside the Paris hotel's shopping area which with the roof painted like the sky & the shops looking like Paris you could almost think you are there. Notice how long Mel keeps the camera on the shoes. Dream dream dream, this is not the shops where you buy cheap stuff. Not for a couple of roughies from Pingelly & Thornlie.

That's all for now. See you all soon. May update later after we go out tonight. maybe we'll see Fat Elvis.

Easy ladies, there's enough of him to go around.

Walking the Strip

-17 °C

Today was spent walking the Vegas strip. Again.

Not intentionally though, we caught the monorail to the last stop where there was supposed to be a connecting bus. Never did find it. So we had to walk miles again to the centre of the strip to get our shuttle bus back to the hotel.

An interesting thing in Vegas is no matter where you want to go to there will be a sign pointing the way, BUT, you seem to end up in a casino walking past every machine in the house without ever finding where you wanted to go. They don't want you to leave.

So many people hassling you to buy something or take something or do something, it's worse than Phuket. They offer you free meals, free drinks & even free money, makes you wonder how they make a profit at all. Yeah right. Although we did discover at our hotel tonight that even if you are sitting at the 1c poker machine all drinks are free. I guess you lose more & bet more if you are drunk.

Tomorrow may have to be rest day, we are so tired we can hardly move at all at the moment.

Did get to buy some more presents today though kids. Lots of places to get cheap stuff.

Mel did have a win on the poker machine though. She won 700, what a shame it was only a 1c machine. I managed to lose $5 in 10 minutes betting at 1c. It's incredible how quickly the money goes even when you are betting 1 or 5c at a time.

I have officially given up asking for a beer. I asked the waitress 4 times for a 'beer' & she just looked at me blankly & shook her head. So we went to the bar & had a few 99c margaritas instead. There's even a Subway in the hotel. Every time we go out there we find something new, like the cinema.

Donny Osmond is playing at the hotel tomorrow night.

We will try & get to a show but they are pretty expensive, Jerry Seinfeld is playing & the cheap seats are over $200.

Here's the video I tried to upload before. I had to compress it so the quality isn't great.

Here's one from Hollywood.

Here is some pictures from today.
